luncheon fork and teaspoon, lengths 7 3/4, 7 1/8, 7 1/4 and 6 inches respectively, weight 5.34 oz. Troy, all monogrammed "Ralph Chandler" script obverse. For those who have interest in such matters, Ralph Chandler served as Master Lieutenant on the sloop Vandalia, and saw action on her in the Civil War battle of Port Royal. He had a long and distinguished career as a naval officer, eventually retiring as Rear-Admiral and commander of the Asiatic Squadron.

The blade features a restrained and well executed bit of engraving (please see third enlargement) with brite-cut foliage and shaded flowers.

height 1 7/8 and 2 1/4 inches respectively; gross Troy weight 5.1 ounces, no monogram, excellent condition although the ebony (or teak?) handle is a bit wobbly in place.

Porter was a highly talented silversmith, but his work is inconsistent and sometimes sloppy. These items showcase his skills at their best. The solder joints are subtle and superbly executed, the hammering is uniform and attractive, the piercings are symmetrical.

You'd be hard pressed to find better examples than these.

A similar ladle with applied medallion in rounded section of the handle sold at South Bay (4/18/2017; lot 195), which leads us to believe that this item was both manufactured and retailed by Newell Harding, thought Wendt is certainly a possibility.

The gilt, ruffled bowl is a tour-de-force of Victorian era engraving. Please see our third enlargement for a better view.

length 8 1/4 inches, pleasantly heavy in the hand at 4.59 Troy ounces, no monogram, gilded with light wear to gilding at high points but exceptionally fine overall condition, marked as shown in fifth enlargement.

length inches, weight 2.17 Troy ounces, monogrammed "G" (?) in elaborate shaded script, obverse, and "1824 / 1874" reverse, reticulated gilt bowl engraved with ivy leaves, immaculate original condition.

We have never encountered a spoon with this boat-shaped flat bottom bowl in the past, and have conferred with a Very Knowledgeable Fellow who has owned one (yes, just one) before and is of the opinion that this is indeed a berry spoon.

or "kidney" shaped bowl, length 9 5/8 inches, weight 4.27 Troy ounces, gilt bowl, excellent condition.

Granted, this is not the rarest piece of Tiffany flatware you'll encounter while surfing the interwebz, but several features do make it stand out from the crowd: 1) the overall color, condition and lack of polishing wear 2) the exceptionally well executed and decorative Art Nouveau monogram (see third photo) which I can not decipher, and 3) the eminently reasonable price tag.

One could spend a substantial number of hours searching through design patents looking for the original name of this pattern, and come up empty handed. Then again, one might find an exact date, and "design for the handle of a spoon." Either way, we find this early die struck p...

diameter 7 3/4 inches, no monogram, some staining of interior which could be cleaned up substantially but otherwise fine condition with a light brown patina to the exterior and a darker one inside.

Copper items by this maker would appear to be scarce, especially larger ones such as this.

3 1/2 inches from snout to tail, weight 3.86 Troy ounces, the pair, no monogram, excellent condition. Marked only "STERLING" with silversmith's scratch marks as shown in second enlargement.
