in rectangle. Is this Joseph Carman? John Chalmers? Joseph Carpenter? Am I failing to Inspire Confidence? Truly, as with many initial marks, the answer may never be known. Length 5 7/8 inches, monogrammed "M" in period script, the bowls are a bit chewed up (see fourth photo) and there is some tip wear-- priced accordingly.

length 7 inches, no monogram, some very slight wear to the high spots (please see second photo) but excellent overall condition and a rather tough item to find, these days.

length 7 inches, three letter script monogram (obverse) as shown, total Troy weight 6.56 ounces, exceptionally fine condition.

We've bought and sold many pieces of Wave Edge over the years, perhaps not enough to sink a battleship but maybe a canoe, and these are among the best. Please see third photo for mark.

length 8 inches (!!), weight 10.22 Troy ounces, a few extremely minor scratches in bowls (see first enlargement, 3rd spoon from top) but excellent overall condition, marked "Tiffany & Co STERLING PAT 1884. M", monogrammed as shown.

We suspect that not many of these spoons were produced, and many of those that survive are looking tired and worn. These will do your collection proud, and also enable you to take a very generous mouthful of soup!

length 8 3/4 inches, fine condition, a discrete three letter script monogram (reverse) as shown in second enlargement, retailed by Boston's own late lamented and very elegant Bigelow Kennard Co.

At 2.85 Troy ounces, this has a wonderfully "heavy in the hand" quality. A fine, old, New England pattern, Newport Shell will blend in harmoniously with any distinguished table setting.

double struck King's pattern with conforming hand chased double thread on blade and eleven lobed shell drop, length 7.5 inches or if you'd prefer 18.75 cm, weight 1.92 oz. Troy, a few minor scratches as shown in third enlargement but excellent overall condition, scarce.

We could only wish that it had a fine old family name but alas there is no engraving and happily no removal.

Over the years, we've bought and sold many pieces of Blossom. This one is in exemplary condition, with gentle hammer marks on spoon bowl and fork tines; each petal of the blossom with full detail as shown in fourth photo. If you're looking for a "best example," stop looking and send us an email!

length 7 7/8 inches, no monogram, weight 5.54 Troy ounces, excellent condition, marked (as shown in fourth enlargement) with Georg Jensen in dotted oval, 84, sterling, and Finnish import marks so you'll know that for sure this set has been to Finland.

May I offer our apologies, dear reader, for having previously catalogued these as "Acorn"? Old age is taking its toll, here.

Reflections of candle light from the gently hammered surface will make this spoon shimmer on your dinner table! We've scoured the Internet in search of a more attractively priced example and come up empty-handed.

length 13 1/2 inches, weight 5 oz Troy, no monogram. Concerning condition, the handle is ever so slightly off vertical and there are some very minor dents in bowl (please see fourth photo). Both of these issues are difficult for my eye to detect, so I do not feel that they need to be addressed. The bust looks pretty much the way it did when this item left the factory in Providence some hundred forty odd years ago...
