Over the years, we've bought and sold many King and King's variant items in coin silver, but this is a particularly fine example in terms of form, quality, and condition.

circa 1870, height of cup 3; diameter 3 5/8 inches, weight 8.07 Troy ounces, some minor insults above the applied round foot where Alice perhaps in need of more tea rapped her vessel upon the table (please see third photo) but very good overall condition.

Years ago, many folks had high enthusiasm over silver from the Golden State, but now we're going to find out the hard way whether or not anyone indeed still gives a rat's derrière.

length 12 inches, weight 3.16 Troy ounces, fine condition with minor scratches on reverse of blade as seen in second enlargement. There is some slight evidence of an erasure, but if so it has been done properly and even the best trained pair of eyes may not be able to detect this.

The blade features an exciting combination of bright cut, diapering and wriggle-work engraving which delights both the eye and the camera's lens...

length 9 3/4 inches, weight 4.17 Troy ounces, no monogram, some very light scratches on blade (ask me to give it a gentle buffing before shipping, if you'd like) but excellent overall condition.

This is a big, splashy looking server which will make a wonderful wedding gift for a couple with a solid sense of style.

This is the rare Bigelow Kennard pierced variant, and it bears the retailer's mark of that fine and elegant old Boston firm.

Often, Gorham's engraved decoration is unsuited to the pattern's theme, but here a classically engraved blade with wrigglework border goes well, stylistically, with the Greek bust woman's portrait.

Of all the nineteenth century American flatware manufacturers, we have a particular fondness for Durgin. Their sensitivity to the natural world and ability to evoke it "in the metal" was uncanny...

marked only "sterling 4," (see fourth enlargement) these are probably Whiting or Gorham, circa 1868. Pleasantly heavy in the hand, they are of exceptional quality and workmanship. Each arm comprises a grapevine (complete with added "age" marks!) with two applied grape leaves and a dangling cluster of grapes. A splendid example of Victoriana, and similar in theme to cheese scoops with figural mice, as their form defines their function...

George Blanchard left the employ of Arthur Stone in 1909 to start his own silversmithy. He was awarded "Master" status by the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts, and these spoons exemplify the exceptional quality of his work.
