Whiting sterling trophy beaker of equine interest
Silver : Sterling : Hollowware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2473 Sold
In 1894, Nellie Sontag would have been a household name. With her brother Sir Mohawk, she was half of the famed trotter team which held the fastest time for their age class. The horses were immortalized in a print by Currier & Ives of John Cameron's painting, which we show here in our fourth enlargement. In May of 1886, when challenged to defend his horses' record, then owner Richard Fox said in essence 'go ahead, make my day,' and his retort made page one of the New York Times (see fifth... John Cook Large 1860s Coin Silver Ice Cream Server
Silver : Coin Silver : Serving Pieces
Old Friends
4915f $185.00
While marked "Pat. Appld. For," along with maker's name "J[ohn]. Cook," New York City, later examples of this unnamed pattern indicate the patent was actually issued in 1869, dating this some time before that. The piece is a large, 9 7/8" long, 2.4 T. oz., die struck, coin silver server, likely for ice cream. The "rosette and bellflower" pattern is similar to A. & W. Wood's Clematis and less closely so to an unnamed one by Michael Gibney, both contemporaneous in time and place with... Click for details

Tiffany "Antique Applied Eagle" Sterling Silver Specialty Teaspoon
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Old Friends
4907f $100.00
In his comprehensive work Tiffany Silver Flatware, author William Hood discusses a number of "not-full-line patterns without a known name or description." This 6" long, weighty at 1.2 T. oz., specialty teaspoon falls into this category. As with several of the pieces Hood illustrates, this is based on "a form related to conventional Antique" with "a chamfered edge around the front of the handle." Apart from the exceptionally fine overall quality, the distinguishing feature... Click for details

John Wendt BIRD sterling dessert spoon
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2470 $75.00
length 7 inches, weight an impressive 1.62 Troy ounces, marked as shown in fifth enlargement.
In many ways, this is an exemplary item, as it has had scant use, little pattern wear and is pleasantly heavy in the hand. Sadly, as may be seen in our second photo, there has been an erasure from the reverse. However, the spoon is still guaranteed to hold your soup or dessert!
