One factor which ultimately contributed to the demise of his firm was that George Shiebler's best designs were difficult to execute and costly to produce. Not many of these forks were made, and the surviving examples vary in quality and condition...

These are substantial and well made spoons, weighing in at 4.69 oz. Troy, the lot. The overall condition is excellent. Whether any of this lends them a premium over the silver value, or whether they'll be swallowed up by the smelter's gaping maw remains to be seen...

Given Yours Truly's horrible proclivities toward fussiness, we do have one complaint: they're a bit over-polished and much oxidation has been removed from the low areas. Bergen circa 1930, length 3 3/4 inches, total Troy weight 1.41 ounces, no monogram, immaculate original condition. For those of you who are not familiar with this mark, 830S = 83% silver.

These would make a splendid hostess gift, especially if your hostess happens to be of Scandinavian descent. Price is for the six.

A spoon which not so very long ago commonly sold for upward of two hundred dollars, at auction. Take advantage of the slight slowdown in the antiques market, while it lasts, to get this item at an advantageous price...

Not antique, but truly a quality item. If Yours Truly were to have a coat of arms, it would probably resemble this one...

Hand wrought special order (number 288) with applied beaded rim above alternating tulip and anthemion border, on round stepped base with conforming beaded edge, large and massive; weight 56 oz. Troy, top diameter 12 3/8 inches excluding handles, height 6 3/8 inches, some minor scratches to interior but excellent overall condition, please see fourth and fifth photos for marks.

maker's mark "OL" height just shy of 3 1/2; top diameter 2 3/4 inches, monogrammed "AAH" (script) in oval cartouche with fancy scrolled floral engraved border, weight 2.23 oz. Troy, faintly gilt interior, a few dents in base as shown (please see photo number three) but very good overall condition.

What more may we say about this beaker? It won't break if you drop it and thus is well suited for bathroom or bar room...

probably Netherlands circa 1900, marked 830s, monogrammed "KH / 12 8 '96", excellent condition and as we say here in Boston, "it's a baaahgin".

length 6 inches, some slight wear to shell (reverse) where it meets the table, see photo number four, but fine overall condition, monogram EJA (?) script obverse, weight 9.08 oz Troy the set, retailed by William Wise & Son.

length 7 5/8 inches, monogrammed "F.E. Dean", maker J.B. & Co (possibly Jones Ball & Co, Boston circa 1850). Most of the handles have the usual pinprick dents which one might expect in knives from this period; two have some larger dings which we've shown in photo number five. The blades are in fine condition.

a header which may alas place us in shady company, length 2 3/8 inches, with snuff/tobacco spoon, pipe scraper, and tamper that doubles as a seal (see fourth photo for positive image). Superb condition.

engraved "Mary from Jennie / Dec 25/70", height 1 3/8; diameter 1 3/4 inches, weight 1.20 Troy ounces, fine condition, marked "S360" as shown in fourth enlargement.

We love that this was a Christmas gift from one woman to her friend, and also that the item is dated (presumbably from year of manufacture) 1870. If you're thinking that it might be nice to have a collection of napkin rings, this would be a great place to start!
