Offered is an excellent example of late 18th Century American silver sugar tongs, in this case by noted Albany, New York silversmith Isaac Hutton. See my other listings for a 1780s example by Hutton in partnership with John Folsom. The tongs in this listing were made by Hutton probably during the period between 1790 and 1796 when he working alone in Albany. These tongs have great wrigglework decoration and an engraved period block letter set of owner's initials. One really unusual feature... Click for details

Offered is a lovely and very early European or colonial (e.g., Dutch New York) silver dognose tablespoon circa 1700-20, or perhaps a few years earlier or later. This piece measures about 7 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 30 grams. It is prick-engraved with a period set of owner's initials, and is marked with a poorly struck or rubbed mark on the handle near the bowl. Please scroll through the pics. There appears to be only the single mark, pointing to a potential colonial origin,... Click for details

Offered is a nice example of the work of the celebrated Baltimore silversmith William Ball (working circa 1789-1815), whose work is surprisingly scarce. This is the first piece of his that I've come across. This piece is marked with Ball's maker's mark twice, and the clearer of the two marks is pictured here (see all pictures by clicking on the first one). This spoon is also graced with a period engraved script monogram and a nicely decorated handle. This piece measures about 8 7/8 inches in... Click for details

Philadelphia circa 1790, with round downturned end and rounded drop, length 14 1/4 inches, weight 6.0 Troy ounces, monogrammed "RRC" (period script, obverse), with a scratch below these initials as shown and a few minor nicks in bowl but very good overall condition. In an attempt to distinguish this ladle from its peers, we'll mention that the bowl has a slight boat shape when viewed head on, as you may see in photo number four.

NOT FOR SALE - Here's a challenge - a circa 1790-1810 American coin silver tablespoon marked only IS in a large serrated punch, with a nicely engraved period script monogram of GJM and a V-shaped drop. This piece measures about 9 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 59 grams. It came in a lot with a piece by Caleb Bentley of DC, VA and MD, and it has the look of rural VA, MD or PA. I haven't seen this particular mark before, and am hoping someone else has. If you can solve this piece (or... Click for details

Offered is a superb set of three early American coin silver spoons by noted Philadelphia silversmith Joseph Richardson, Jr. In my view, there is no more elegant expression of American silver flatware of the late 18th Century than that shown by these spoons. The spoons each measure about 5 5/8 inches in length and the three weigh a total of about 50 grams. Each spoon has a clear maker's mark and well-executed period engraved script monogram of 'LW' within an ovoid reserve. Condition is... Click for details

For your consideration is an interesting late 18th Century style American coin silver spoon, marked "W (pellet) D". It is my assumption at least that this piece, which measures about 4 15/16 inches in length and weighs about 8 grams, is American. It does not feel Canadian or British Colonial to me, nor does it come across as Continental. The light weight, unusual shell-back decoration, small bowl size, mark and engraving to the handle indicate to me that it is probably American and quite... Click for details

Offered is a lovely early American coin silver coffee spoon or teaspoon by noted New York silversmith Silas White (b. ca. 1737 - d. 1798), circa 1775-85 by style, and probably on the earlier end of that range. This piece has one of White's maker's marks documented at Winterthur and elsewhere, and shares the distinctive drop with other spoons bearing his mark. This piece has a good clear maker's mark and a period engraved block initial monogram. This spoon measures about 4 3/8 inches in length... Click for details
