Offered is a lovely and very early American coin silver table spoon by New York silversmith Peter Vergereau. According to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts:

"Peter Vergereau is probably the individual born into New York City’s French community and baptised at the Église Françoise à la Nouvelle York on August 21, 1700. He was granted freeman status in 1721, which would have been the logical time for him to begin practicing his craft after an average apprenticeship. Vergereau was married... Click for details

Each spoon has a clear maker's mark and well-executed period engraved script monogram of 'LW' within an ovoid reserve. Condition is... Click for details

For your consideration is an interesting late 18th Century style American coin silver spoon, marked "W (pellet) D". It is my assumption at least that this piece, which measures about 4 15/16 inches in length and weighs about 8 grams, is American. It does not feel Canadian or British Colonial to me, nor does it come across as Continental. The light weight, unusual shell-back decoration, small bowl size, mark and engraving to the handle indicate to me that it is probably American and quite... Click for details
