Offered is a nicely decorated late 18th Century American coin silver teaspoon by little-known Philadelphia, PA and Lansingburgh, NY silversmith David Smith, working in Philadelphia circa 1778-87, and in Lansingburgh from about 1787-93. This piece is engraved with a period monogram within a nicely done reserve, in the New York style. As such, the spoon likely dates from Mr. Smith's Lansingburgh years. The maker's mark is rubbed but legible. This spoon measures about 5 7/16 inches in length... Click for details

Coin Silver Spoon Marked CLARK, Circa 1760-75?

Offered is an interesting and odd American coin silver teaspoon or coffee spoon, measuring about 4 7/8 inches in length and weighing about 12 grams, marked CLARK in crude roman caps. I can't tell whether this is a legitimate mark, or a spurious mark meant to emulate one for Joseph Clark, Jr. - the placement of the letters are quite close to his known full name mark, and the die looks consistent with one that was worn and cut down. However, the piece has some question marks. There is a later... Click for details

Offered is an interesting early silver spoon that I strongly suspect is coin silver; it was part of an assembled collection out of Massachusetts. This piece appears to be marked "BS" or perhaps "RS", but then it is subject to interpretation. There is the remnant of another mark, but it isn't a lion passant as the orientation of the lion would be all wrong. This piece appears to date to about 1760-80. It measures about 4 1/16 inches in length, and weighs about 7 grams. There is no monogram,... Click for details

This piece is engraved with a well-executed period script monogram that appears to be "SM". This spoon is marked to the reverse with one of McMullin's earlier maker's marks. Condition is very good overall, with modest wear from normal use and one tiny ding to the bowl, but no splits or... Click for details

Offered is a nice early American coin silver birdback teaspoon by noted Philadelphia maker John Myers (fl. 1785-1804), with a fairly worn but legible bird. This piece is engraved with period script initials of "PS" and has a maker's mark of I.MYERS to the reverse. This piece measures about six inches in length and weighs about 12 grams. Condition is fair, with some wear and dings to the bowl, and a very slight waviness to the stem. Please take a look at all the pictures. All in all a fine... Click for details

Offered is a lovely early American coin silver teaspoon from the late 18th Century, bearing period engraved block initials but without a maker's mark. Although this piece could be from anywhere in theory, it has certain proportions that might support a guess of a New Hampshire origin. Hard to explain - more of a "feel" thing. This piece measures about 5 inches in length and weighs about 8 grams. Condition is very good overall, with minimal wear and no dents, splits or repairs. There are... Click for details
