New York circa 1825, length 12 1/2 inches, weight 4.52 Troy ounces, monogrammed "M" in period script with flourishes. There is a slight abrasion above the initial, and some very minor scratches in bowl as shown in enlargements three and four but the overall condition is outstanding.

Offered is a good pair of American coin silver (many would consider this Southern coin silver) teaspoons bearing the retailer's mark of F. J. Posey. Frederick J. Posey (1815-1881) was active as a silversmith, jeweler, watch and clockmaker in Hagerstown, Maryland from at least 1842 until after 1860. He also reportedly worked as a watch and clockmaker in Shepherdstown, Virginia in 1842. Offered is a fine and rare group of three American coin silver teaspoons by little-known silversmith, jeweler and clock and watch maker Michael Bush, working in Easton, Pennsylvania circa 1831. His available biographical information appears below. These spoons average about 6 1/8 inches in length and the three together weigh about 46 grams. This mid 19th century, coin silver spoon measures 8 11/16" long and weighs 1.4 T. oz.

It has a broad, "Tipt" end, high shoulders off the bowl, and a generously proportioned, 3" long by 1 7/8" at the widest, scallop shell bowl.

There is a fancy, feathered script "HMM" monogram on the front of the handle.

An expressive, detailed high relief design, Durgin's late 19th century "Heraldic" incorporates many images appropriate to the name.

Starting with the top of the handle, there are a pair of upraised (presumably eagle) wings. These appear to rise out of a crown, which itself sits over a lion rampant on a shield. Lastly there is an upraised steed projecting out of a castle turret.
