One of Gorham's earliest full line patterns, Rosette reflects the Greek Revival style popular in the 1860s period when it was issued.

Having a double lined border, the handle end incorporates an anthemion flanked by scrolls, while there is a rosette placed midway up the shank, hence the pattern name.

This example is a 6" long, 1.3 T. oz., sugar sifter with a 2" diameter, round, pierced bowl with scalloped edges and coffered sides...

This piece measures 7 1/2" long, weighs 1.2 T. oz., and has a 2 3/4" by 1 3/4" oblong bowl with a central groove in the interior and rounded corners.

It was made by Frank Smith, likely in the 1880s, and is stamped with his early "S flanked by scrolls" emblem, the word "Sterling," and the name of the retailer, "C.E. Wright" on the reverse.

A preserve or jelly spoon, it has a rounded end "Antique" handle with a plain back...

A 10 1/2", 3.9 T. oz., piece, this item is a long-handled salad server, although it could readily double as a platter spoon.

Made by Gorham, whose "lion, anchor, G" emblem and the word "Sterling" are imprinted on the bowl backside, the pattern is "Versailles."

Featuring imagery inspired by the palace from which the pattern takes its name, this shows a full-sized, draped, classical female figure...

Weighty at 2.8 T. oz., and lengthy at 8", this cheese scoop is a fully original, i.e. not "made up" or "custom" as some items in this form are, example in Gorham's Newcastle.

Introduced in 1895, the pattern has beaded margins, with progressively larger beads toward the tipt end of the handle.

The scoop itself has a low cut, cupped, heel, with a rounded end with high, beveled, walls.

Never monogrammed, this is without wear or damage and has a bright finish...

Made by Frank Smith, Federal Cotillion, was introduced in 1901 the year the Victorian era ended and the Edwardian one began, which likely explains the original name of the pattern, Edward VII.

A nearly identical design to Whiting's King Edward, also dating from 1901, the pattern is a stately interpretation of a traditional English Kings.

This example is a 5 3/4" long, just over 1.1 T. oz., sugar spoon...

Very much a period table piece, this 8 1/4" long, 1.5 T. oz., spoon has a rounded end with a tipt backside, and an exposed drop on the bowl.

The handle front is diamond cut and wriggle work engraved, and has a block letter "E S" monogram, in a manner that bespeaks its age.

The handle reverse is fully hallmarked with a castle assay mark for Exeter, England, 1799-1800 date letter (George III), duty bust, lion for sterling silver, and "RJ" for silversmith Richard Jenkins (d. 1807)...

A naturalistic pattern that shows Art Nouveau influences, Royal Oak was patented in 1902, as imprinted on the backside of this lengthy, 8 1/16" long, and weighty at nearly 1.9 T. oz., master butter knife.

Other marks include Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem and the word "Sterling."

The oak and acorn elements that constitute the design are offered in high relief, densely arrayed, and finely detailed, front and backsides of the handle and extending onto the heel of the blade...

Measuring 6 1/8" long and weighing just over .8 T. oz., this pickle fork is an early example of Alvin's 1905 Art Nouveau Old Orange Blossom pattern, informally known as OOB.

Early pieces distinguish themselves from later ones and reproductions by their exceptionally fine detail and finish. In addition, the handle is up-tipped, while later made pieces have flat handle ends...

Each of these six matching 5 5/8" long, 4.0 T. oz. the group, teaspoons is marked with a first standard Minerva head for 950 silver (vs. sterling at 925) with a requisite bigorne counterstamp on the corresponding opposite side of the handle, along with a maker's "LL with a cross between the letters and stars above and below" emblem...

This 6" long, just over 1.0 T. oz...

Dating from the middle third of the 20th century as indicated by the particular "S. Kirk & Son Sterling" mark that appears on the handle backside, this 5 3/8" long, approximately 1.0 T. oz., round bowl piece is variously identified as a cream or mayonnaise ladle.

The pattern is the company's signature "Repousse," featuring an array of high relief, satin finish, flowers and leaves.

The backside is plain and never monogrammed.

In flawless estate condition, this is free of any evident wear...

The earliest of four Kings (I, II, III, and King George) patterns produced by Gorham, Kings I, introduced in 1876, is the most individualistic and least imitative of the four of the English counterparts from which this popular American design in many manifestations evolved.

Each of these two spoons measures 5 1/4" long with the pair weighing 1.2 T. oz. combined.

Ice cream spoons, they have twisted stems with rounded ends that are engraved in a floral and leaf design with faux engine turning.

Each one is also inscribed in the frontside reserve area with an Old English "M.E.S." monogram. The backsides are plain save for the word "Sterling."

The bowls have notched shoulders and slightly pointed tips.

The overall form and design suggests a date circa 1870. ...

Dating from 1872, Gorham's Corinthian embodies the Greek Revival and Moorish sensibilities of its 1870s period. Architectural in style, it incorporates an anthemion leaf on the handle surmounted by leafy tracery.

This example is a lengthy at 8", and weighty at 1.3 T. oz., solid silver master butter knife.

The broad, 1" wide, flat blade has a scalloped upper edge and is engraved on the upper surface in a design that mirrors the pattern.

A salad or large berry serving spoon, this piece measures 9" long, weighs a substantial 2.9 T. oz., and has a generously sized, 3 1/2" by 2 3/4" by 3/4" deep, bowl with a satin matte gold finish on both sides.

The pattern is Charles II by Dominick & Hall whose three part emblem, "Sterling," "Pat-d 94," and the name of the retailer, Brooklyn's "Wm. Wise & Son" appear on the reverse.

A bright cut floral and leaf design dating circa 1880 rendered in an Aesthetic manner, the pattern on this 8 1/4" long, 1.4 T. oz. serving spoon appears to be Towle's No. 38 Engraved.

Made by Durgin, whose "D" emblem and the word "Sterling," appear on the backside, the pattern is Old Standish, issued in 1901, to be distinguished from New Standish introduced in 1905.

It is a clean pattern with a double lined border and tipt end set on a rounded handle.
