Made by Reed & Barton and akin to the company's Harelquin line of flower designs, this orange or grapefruit spoon has a cast handle with a narrow, branch-like stem.

An older piece, it is marked with R&B's "eagle, R, lion" emblem and the word "Sterling."

Measuring 5 3/8" long and weighing .6 T. oz., the pattern is an Orange or Orange Blossom, interpreted in something of an Art Nouveau manner...

A long handled version, this olive spoons measures 7" as against a regular length 5 1/2" or so for this form. It weighs .7 T. oz.

Made by Watson, the pattern is Bridal Flower, introduced in 1910.

Although dating from late in the Art Nouveau period, this follows fully after that style, with a very fluid interpretation of the lily blossoms that form the centerpiece of the design...

A not readily found pattern, Frank Smith's 1912 George VI aka Ridgefield is, appropriately, a regal looking design that features a variety of raised acanthus leaves and scrolls set on a shaped handle with double lined margins.

The handle backside is less elaborate than the front, but still quite detailed.

Issued in 1910, Buckingham bears a strong resemblance to Gorham's companion and immensely successful Chantilly line that was introduced fifteen years earlier.

It could be argued the two patterns are variants of the same design, with the former incorporating English style detail and the latter French, as intimated by their respective names. Buckingham is also more robust, i.e. generally heavier weight, than Chantilly, and often has more elaborated serving ends...

Model number "A9969," as stamped on the underside, along with Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem, the word "Sterling," and the name of the retailer, Boston's "Bigelow, Kennard & Co.," this flat-bottomed, oval tray measures 8 1/4" long by 5 1/2" wide and weighs a relatively heavy 6.8 T. oz...

Robust, this pair of ice tongs measure 7 1/8" long and weigh a substantial 2.9 T. oz.

Well suited to their function, they have a cupped and pierced shell grip at the end of one arm, and a highly articulated claw or talon grip on the flanking arm.

An original, early production, piece, this regular length, 6 3/8" long, .64 T. oz. olive spoon in the Fairfax pattern is marked with Durgin's "D" emblem, "Sterling," "Pat'd," and "A. Stowell & Co.," a once prominent Boston jeweler.

Introduced in 1910 by Durgin, this colonial revival design proved immensely popular and was continued in production by Gorham after it absorbed Durgin in the early decades of the 20th century...

Originally associated with Herman Marcus as Starr & Marcus, Theodore B. Starr established his own firm in 1880. His work as a jeweler was renowned and he also produced silver hollowware (see Old Friends item 5551f) as well as some flat ware.

George Blanchard, along with sons Porter and Richard, represent a dynasty within the realm of American Arts & Crafts silversmithing.

With family roots in Gardner, Massachusetts, George originally worked with Arthur Stone. Porter went on to establish one of the most well-known silver workshops in California, where the family also founded the California Society of Arts & Crafts.

Wallace produced an extensive line of largely floral numbered patterns in the early years of the 20th century.

An example from that series, this 5 7/8" long, .74 T. oz. teaspoon is number "107" as imprinted on the backside, along with Wallace's "R W deer head & S" emblem and the word "Sterling."

An openwork design, the handle obverse features perhaps palm or other leaves on a stem.

The reverse is plain save for a fancy, delicate, feathered script "ENL" monogram.

Not a standard full line pattern, the Daisy pattern on this pair of 4 1/8" long, .68 T. oz., tongs made by Reed & Barton are from the company's early 20th century Harlequin floral series, which was made in a limited number of pieces.

Toward the Art Nouveau in manner, the design features a single full blossom at the top of each arm, with a bud and abundance of leaves below it.

Watson Newell's "Orchid" is one of numerous floral designs the company produced in the early part of the 20th century that yet stand as exemplary expressions of Art Nouveau design.

This example is a 5" long, .9 T. oz., cream ladle.

The flower is fully three-dimensional, rising out of the end of handle and folding over on itself in a highly expressive manner, with trailing leaves tracing their way up the handle margins, front and back sides.

The pattern is "Thistle," which is an early 20th century Art Nouveau design made by R. Blackinton & Co.

The pattern, "Paris" by Gorham, on this lengthy at 7 7/8" long and substantial weight at 1.7 T. oz., master butter knife was issued at the turn of the 20th century and reflects the Beaux Arts design sensibilities of the time.

A multi-motif, Art Nouveau, design that features orchids, narcissus, and possibly poppy on this piece, the portraiture is set in high relief and is particularly expressive.

This item is laden with provenance, reflected in the various inscriptions that appear in the gold washed bowl and handle front and backsides.
