Marked "Coin" and with the number "4," but without a maker's identifier, this particular 1860s "Medallion" pattern is illustrated in D. Albert Soeffing's benchmark Silver Medallion Flatware within a grouping that he classifies as "naive" or "primitive."

Soeffing shows a sugar sifter, while this is a 6 1/4" long, just over .8 T. oz., sardine fork.

The "Medallion" is cast and applied, portraying in this case a right facing female figure surrounded by engraved detailing, and on the... Click for details

also known as "man in the moon," and "North wind," but whatever you call it this Charles Osborne design is certainly one of the most enchanting pieces of children's silverware ever created.

Length 5 3/4 inches, weight 1.67 Troy ounces, engraved on reverse of bowl "Edna from Louise '92", excellent original condition with only the slightest loss of gilding to high points. This item is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Without a formal name, but commonly referred to as "Peony" for the large, single, arched, blossom that appears on the end of the handle, this circa 1885 pattern is also characterized by its twist stem.

The line is number "26," by Whiting, and this number, along with the company "lion" logo and "Sterling," appears on the backsides of this youth set, comprised of a 6 3/8" long fork and 5 7/8" long spoon, with a combined weight of 2.1 T. oz.

Each piece is engraved "Ellen Burdett" in script on... Click for details

This piece is not for sale, but help me solve the mystery of who made this piece, and I will send you a very nice coin silver spoon in thanks! These twist-arm American coin silver sugar tongs measure about 7 1/8 inches in length and weigh about 49 grams. The maker's mark is a fairly crude SR in a serrated punch. Please take a look at all the pictures. The engraved arms and circular reserve might indicate a Western Pennsylvania or Midwestern, or perhaps Shenandoah Valley origin, but so far... Important Set of Four Washington, DC Dessert Spoons by Bentley & Wood

20181021-18   $750.00

Offered is an extraordinary set of four early American coin silver dessert spoons by Washington, DC silversmiths Joseph Bentley and William Wood, circa 1809. This brief partnership, conducted at the Washington Navy Yard, lasted only from December 1808 through the end of August 1809, when it was dissolved by mutual consent. Silver bearing the mark of this partnership is of course extremely rare, and this set of dessert spoons with extremely well preserved maker's marks is very likely the best... Click for details
