Offered is a nice American coin silver spoon by New York City silversmith John Sayre (1771-1952), circa 1796-1800. This piece has Sayre's maker's mark to the reverse, and the front is engraved with period script initials "EC" in an oval reserve. It measures about 5 1/4 inches in length and weighs 11 grams. Condition is fair overall, with some wear and weathering to the bowl and to the upper handle, but no splits or repairs. All in all a good useful spoon, dating back about 225 years!

Offered is a quite rare example of the work of little-known Portland, Maine silversmith Daniel Poore (1767-1840), who was born in Newburyport, MA but was working in Maine by 1795. This piece is very nicely decorated and engraved with period script initials "BT"; it is a transitional form between the coffin-end and fiddle patterns. Offered is a very nice late 18th Century American coin silver pictureback teaspoon by noted Philadelphia silversmith Abraham Dubois, circa 1785-95. This piece is engraved with a period block letter monogram of SY, and has a good strike of Abraham Dubois' full-name maker's mark. The back of the bowl has a die-struck decoration of a bird grasping an olive-branch, which is quite worn, perhaps 80 percent gone. Nonetheless, it adds a bit to this piece.

Offered is a scarce example of the work of Connecticut silversmith Judah Hart, who during his career was mostly in partnerships - this coffin-end coin silver teaspoon initialed "AG" in period script was probably made either between 1800-02 or 1807-10, when he is believed to have been working alone. Mr. Hart's maker's mark is struck clearly on this spoon, along with his fascinating pseudo-hallmark of an index hand.

Offered is a scarce example of the silverwork of Amos Doolittle (1754-1832), a New Haven, Connecticut silversmith. Mr. Doolittle is equally well known for having served in the American Revolution; he was one of the men who marched under the command of later turncoat Benedict Arnold in the Spring of 1775. He was also a founder of the Governor's Foot Guard.

Hammered surfaces were often a mark of hand worked Arts & Crafts period silver work, and this piece is a study in that feature. A relatively large, 7" tall, 5.17 T. oz., solid silver muffineer, i.e. sugar shaker or caster, every facet of the piece, inside, outside, and underside, shows dense hammering that has a chiseled character to it.
