Offered is a nice typical 1820s Boston coin silver spoon by T. A. Davis. It has a rubbed but legible maker's mark and a period engraved script monogram of "BL". The form is consistent with Boston spoons of the 1820s - fairly light, square shoulders, and monogram running across the spoon. All in all a nice... Click for details

Good Pennsylvania Style Coin Silver Spoon Marked ANDERSON
Silver : Coin Silver

Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
20230902-04   Sold

Offered is a very nice and well-preserved American coin silver teaspoon marked ANDERSON in a rectangular punch; this spoon has a Pennsylvania or perhaps Maryland or Virginia feel to it, but of course could have been retailed by a Southerner elsewhere. This mark has at times been attributed to makers in South Carolina and Ohio, but I'm not at all sure of any attributions for this mark. Joseph Anderson of Philadelphia is one possibility, as he was working circa 1858-61 and this spoon would be... Click for details

Coin Silver Spoon Mkd J.W.JOHNSTON; John W. Johnston of Pittsburgh?
Silver : Coin Silver

Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
20230902-03   Sold

Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon marked J.W.JOHNSTON and also marked with a wheel-form manufacturer's mark often associated with Detroit. The only J. W. Johnston I've found is a jeweler working in Pittsburgh between at least 1863-67, and because spoons with this mark are sometimes found here in Pittsburgh, I've tentatively assigned this mark to that man. The marks on this piece are rubbed but mostly legible, and the spoon also has a period engraved script monogram of "LRB". It... Click for details

The mark on this spoon was published in Silver Magazine recently as part of a series of articles on the Silversmiths of Erie. No other examples have been recorded anywhere. Philadelphia Teaspoon by James Peters with Rare Mark Variant

Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
20230830-01   Sold

Offered is an interesting American coin silver teaspoon with a very rare mark variant for well-known Philadelphia silversmith James Peters; this is the only example of this mark I've observed. It's uncommon enough that no example was found for Catherine Hollan's book, despite many other Peters marks having been found. Perhaps this was a die that broke shortly after being introduced, or one not normally used on flatware. This teaspoon is engraved "MAW" in period script and has a legible... Click for details
