Offered is a delicate and much loved American coin silver teaspoon by Hagerstown, MD silversmith Henry Biershing (1790-1843), circa 1815. This piece is engraved "EVP" in period script and has a clear, well-struck maker's mark. It measures about 5 inches in length and weighs about 9 grams. Condition is fair, with lots of little dings and scratches to the bowl, and some surface wear to the handle (see all pictures), but no splits or repairs. All in all a very nice example of this sought-after ...

Offered is a good Southern coin silver spoon - a fiddle and thread pattern teaspoon by noted New Orleans firm Hyde & Goodrich, which both retailed silver and made pieces in-house. This may be a New Orleans-made spoon as there are no manufacturer's marks, only the maker's mark of Hyde & Goodrich This spoon is not monogrammed, and there are no obvious signs of an erasure, though it can't be ruled out. This spoon measures about 6 3/8 inches in length and weighs about 26 grams. Condition overall...

Offered is a good American silver (early 1870s sterling silver, in a coin silver pattern) teaspoon in fiddle thread, bearing the mark of A.B. Griswold & Co. of New Orleans, as well as a sterling mark and the manufacturer's mark of Wood & Hughes of New York. This piece has a period engraved block letter monogram. It measures about 6 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. Condition is good overall, with minor surface wear and a small shallow ding to the bowl, and other modest signs of use;...

Offered is a nice typical 1820s Boston coin silver spoon by T. A. Davis. It has a rubbed but legible maker's mark and a period engraved script monogram of "BL". The form is consistent with Boston spoons of the 1820s - fairly light, square shoulders, and monogram running across the spoon. This spoon measures about 5 3/8 inches in length and weighs about 11 grams. Condition is fairly good, with modest wear and the bowl very slightly out of round, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice se...

Offered is a very nice and well-preserved American coin silver teaspoon marked ANDERSON in a rectangular punch; this spoon has a Pennsylvania or perhaps Maryland or Virginia feel to it, but of course could have been retailed by a Southerner elsewhere. This mark has at times been attributed to makers in South Carolina and Ohio, but I'm not at all sure of any attributions for this mark. Joseph Anderson of Philadelphia is one possibility, as he was working circa 1858-61 and this spoon would be th...

Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon marked J.W.JOHNSTON and also marked with a wheel-form manufacturer's mark often associated with Detroit. The only J. W. Johnston I've found is a jeweler working in Pittsburgh between at least 1863-67, and because spoons with this mark are sometimes found here in Pittsburgh, I've tentatively assigned this mark to that man. The marks on this piece are rubbed but mostly legible, and the spoon also has a period engraved script monogram of "LRB". It ...

Offered is a very nice and scarce example of early American coin silver in a Queens pattern variant, by noted Philadelphia silversmith Thomas Whartenby and probably dating to the 1825-40 timeframe. This piece is clearly marked with one of Whartenby's many maker's marks, and has a worn period script "AR" monogram. The die-struck pattern is a bit worn but overall is nicely preserved. This spoon measures about 5 3/4 inches in length and weighs a hefty 31 grams, or about one troy ounce. Conditio...

Offered is a very rare, and perhaps unique circa early 1830s coin silver teaspoon made by Orrin N. Sage (biography below), silversmith and surgeon dentist, and marked with his maker's mark. This mark is unique in shape and style and includes the city denotation of Erie within the design. The mark on this spoon was published in Silver Magazine recently as part of a series of articles on the Silversmiths of Erie. No other examples have been recorded anywhere. This teaspoon has a good clear mak...

Offered are three very nice Delaware coin silver teaspoons (available singly or as a set) by Wilmington silversmith, watchmaker, jeweler and seal cutter John Foulk Robinson (1812-1867), working circa 1835-40 to 1867 in Wilmington. Each spoon has a clear, crisp strike of J.F. Robinson's maker's mark, as well as a period engraved script monogram of "RB". These spoons measure about 5 7/8 inches in length, and weigh about 16 grams, for a total of 48 grams for the three. Condition overall is excel...

Offered is a good American coin silver teaspoon by the noted partnership of Robert and William Wilson, working in Philadelphia between about 1825 and the 1850s. This spoon has one of their maker's marks and a mark of STANDARD denoting the fineness (about 0.900, most likely). It also features a period engraved script monogram of what appears to be "AY". This piece probably dates to the late 1820s or the 1830s, based on subtle stylistic clues. It measures about 6 1/4 inches in length and weigh...

Offered is a lovely American coin silver teaspoon by little-known Philadelphia jeweler Americus Lancaster, working circa 1839-80; this spoon should date to between 1839 and 1860 based on style. This piece is engraved with a period script monogram of "RME" and bears one of two known marks for Americus Lancaster; the mark on this specific spoon was used in the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This piece measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 16 grams. Condit...

Offered is a good American coin silver teaspoon by Philadelphia watchmaker and jeweler Henry Ormsby, working circa 1839-61. This is one of three known marks by Ormsby, and the mark on this spoon was used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This spoon is engraved "MW" in period script and has good legible marks, including an address mark. This piece measures about 5 5/8 inches in length and weighs about 12 grams. Offered is an interesting American coin silver teaspoon with a very rare mark variant for well-known Philadelphia silversmith James Peters; this is the only example of this mark I've observed. It's uncommon enough that no example was found for Catherine Hollan's book, despite many other Peters marks having been found. Perhaps this was a die that broke shortly after being introduced, or one not normally used on flatware. This teaspoon is engraved "MAW" in period script and has a legible maker'...

Offered is a fine pair of Georgian sterling silver sauce or gravy ladles by noted London silversmith Thomas Barker (registered 1805, as a spoon maker; he added a mark with a pellet in 1811). It is difficult to find serving pieces like this in pairs. These sauce ladles each have clear maker's marks and London hallmarks for 1813, and each is engraved with a good period fluted script monogram of "JMH". These ladles measure about 6 3/4 inches in length, and the pair weighs about 120 grams altogeth...

Offered is an interesting circa 1780 American coin silver spoon, perhaps by John Burger, or perhaps by John Benjamin (though it seems a few years too late for him), or another maker. The long drop on this spoon most resembles those on John Benjamin spoons (Burger's drops tend to be shorter and more pointed or cone shaped), adding to the mystery. This piece is struck twice with a maker's mark of I*B, and is engraved with a good period script monogram. This spoon measures about 4 5/8 inch i...

Offered is a very nice table knife from France and probably the mid-19th Century - the knot-type pattern mixes well with a lot of coin silver patterns. This piece is marked with the 950 standard mark (Minerva head in a punch with clipped corners) adopted after 1838. There appears to be no maker's mark. This knife measures about 8 1/8 inches. It is not monogrammed or crested. Condition is very good overall, with minor wear from normal use but no notable dents and no splits or repairs. All i...

This spoon is engraved "DEA" in period script and has a good maker's or retailer's mark for Freeman as well as a sterling mark.
