Older Japanese porcelain with the incised Japan on the back of the piece. It is 2 1/2 inches in height. It is a fragile porcelain and lucky to have not developed a hairline from age. The back side is blank. It is handpainted and probably has some age wear to the paint, however, a lot of these old pieces were painted with a "lick and a promise" (my mother's expression) and usually applied haphazardly.
