Measuring 5 7/8" long each and weighing 3.2 T. oz. the lot, each of these six spoons has a broad, tipt end handle with a twisted stem. The bowls are generously proportioned at 2 1/8" by 1 1/4" and have pointed tips.

They are marked "Rhoads" for Henry Zahm Rhoads, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania jeweler and watchmaker. Information in an online biography suggests these date within a narrow time frame, between 1861 when Rhoads returned from an apprenticeship in Virginia at the outbreak of the Civil... Weighing a substantial 1.6 T. oz., and measuring 7" long, this piece is variously identified as a place, dessert, or oval soup spoon.

It is in a "French Thread" aka "Fiddle Thread" pattern and marked "J[ared].L. Moore" for the New York City jeweler and watchmaker working during the second quarter of the 19th century.

The name "Settle" is engraved in script on the handle front, set sideways.

One of Gorham's earliest coin silver master salts, this is also an exceptionally fine example of the form.

Model number "18," as identified on the underside, along with the rare "left lion" version of Gorham's hallmark, the word "Coin," and the name of the retailer, "W.H. Talbot & Co.," (more commonly spelled "Talbott") of Indianapolis.

This is large, measuring 3" by 2 1/4" by 1 5/8" high, and robust weight at just over 2.4 T. oz.

Made by and marked for San Francisco's Koehler & Ritter, this coin silver serving spoon measures a lengthy 9" overall and has a generously proportioned, 3 3/4" by 2 1/2", plum-shaped bowl. It weighs approximately 2.3 T. oz.

The pattern is "Alameda" aka "Ivy." It strongly resembles Gorham's "Corinthian" of the same c. 1870 date, but with the addition of a spray of raised ivy leaves and berries set against a stippled ground.

This mug stands 3" to the top edge, 3 1/2" to the highest point of the handle, has a top opening 2 3/4" across, a rimmed foot that is 1 7/8" in diameter, and weighs 2.9 T. oz.

It has double marks, one of which is "WG&S" for William Gale & Son, and a second which is three part, one of which includes a diamond imprinted with the date "185x," with the final number obscured.

Offered is an extraordinary set of four early American coin silver dessert spoons by Washington, DC silversmiths Joseph Bentley and William Wood, circa 1809. This brief partnership, conducted at the Washington Navy Yard, lasted only from December 1808 through the end of August 1809, when it was dissolved by mutual consent. Offered is a good set of five sterling silver table forks in the Mayflower pattern widely known from Kirk and Warner coin silver examples; these particular forks bear the mark of James R. Armiger (fl. Baltimore circa 1892-1936). These forks measure about 7 inches in length and weigh a total of about 220 grams. Offered is a very nice American coin silver teaspoon by Philadelphia watchmaker and jeweler Benjamin Robinson, working circa 1818-44. This piece has a good clear mark for. Mr. Robinson and a city mark for Philadelphia; it also has the eagle with shield mark thought perhaps to denote manufacture by R. & W. Wilson, though to my knowledge this hasn't been proved. Offered is a very good American coin silver tea spoon by Marshall & Tempest of Philadelphia, working in that locale circa 1813 to 1830. This piece has a legible maker's mark and a nicely engraved period script monogram. Please take a look at the pictures. It measures about 5 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 12 grams. Condition is very good overall, with minor signs of use from normal wear, but no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a lovely example of the height of the form in fiddle... Click for details
