This pattern is identified in the Gorham archives (housed at Brown University and cataloged by scholar Sam Hough) as "Old English." It is commonly referred to, however, as "Seal Top" after the round, flat disk that surmounts the end of the faceted shank, which in turn follows after a traditional "old English" form.

Almost never marked, it frequently goes unrecognized for what it is, namely coin silver produced by the above maker. Wood & Hughes made a nearly identical pattern with the same... Click for details

Fine York, Pennsylvania Coin Silver Teaspoon by John Brenise Ca. 1825

Offered is a very good early American coin silver spoon by little-known York, Pennsylvania silversmith John Brenise. This is only the second piece I've had bearing Brenise's maker's mark; his work seems to be quite scarce. This piece measures about 5 7/16 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Condition is very good with only modest wear and no dents, splits or repairs. The period engraved script monogram and maker's mark are well-executed. All in all a fine example of coin silver from... This spoon measures about 3 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 4 grams. Condition is excellent with modest surface wear but no... Click for details

Each one is 5 5 1/16" long, while the group weighs a substantial 3.2 T. oz.

They are in flawless condition and absent monograms or removals of same. The late 19th century, scroll and bead design is fully articulated and without any polishing wear. The delicate tines are all straight, even, and remain pointed. The finish has a... Click for details
