A weighty 1.2 T. oz., this spoon measures 6 3/4" long, which is the length of a dessert or oval soup.

Two aspects of it, however, suggest it was a youth spoon.

One is obvious, specifically the engraving in the bowl, which reads, "JEFF Dec. 10. 90," which is likely a birth date.

The second feature is the dual sided gold wash on the bowl. This is an unusual embellishment for a place piece.

The pattern is Whiting's multi-motif "Berry," in this case elderberry, which is portrayed on... Click for details

Made by Philadelphia's George Sharp, who is most associated with this style, and particularly so his "Ball End," it is stamped "Patent 1863," "G.S.," and "Sterling," on one of the facets of the six-sided handle.
