While Francis W. Cooper was well-regarded producer working in New York City in the third quarter of the 19th century, and especially known for his ecclesiastical silver, little biographical information seems to be available about him.

This example of his work is a full-size, 7 5/8" long, heavy at 1.9 T. oz., coin silver dinner fork.

The pattern is an "Olive" variant, very close in manner to fellow New York manufacturer John Polhamus' 1857 "Empire."

There is an Old English "G" monogram... Click for details

This example of late Victorian grape shears or, as period catalogues identify them, scissors, are of a quality that set the bar for such pieces. They excel in terms of design, manufacture, and material.

The first factor that stands out is that they are made of solid sterling silver. Grape shears typically have steel cutters, while these are clearly marked on the backside of the lower blade "Howard & Co.," the date "1892," "New York," and "Sterling." To be sure, they do have darkened... Click for details

Offered is a pair of early American coin silver teaspoons decorated in the New York fashion, and marked R&C in script in a conformed punch, most likely for Riker & Clapp, working in New York City between 1800 and 1802. This may be a mark that was not long in service, as it seems very uncommon. These spoons have rubbed but legible maker's marks, and a period engraved monogram to each handle. They measure about 5 1/2 inches in length, and weigh a total of about 25 grams. Condition is fair at... Click for details

Offered is a lovely American coin silver gravy ladle or sauce ladle by Edward and David Kinsey of Cincinnati, working circa 1844-61. This piece has a twist handle and excellent decoration, as well as a period monogram to the front, and a period inscription to the back.
