Dating from 1885, Wood & Hughes "Victoria" pattern is essentially a broad "Antique" with a stylized end that seems to take inspiration from the Aesthetic mode popular in the period.

Produced in a plain version, it also had a number of engraved variants, of which this, number "80," is one.

The engraving is particularly engaging, and features three flower blossoms, sunflower or similar, with leafy detail, all set against a satin matte ground.

This example is a full size dinner fork, 7... Click for details

Pair of Scarce Coin Silver Tablespoons by Theodore LeHuray
click for details
Offered is a very good pair of American coin silver table spoons by Philadelphia merchant and jeweler Theodore LeHuray, circa 1846-51. These tablespoons are rare survivors in that Theodore only went into the jewelry and silversmithing business for a few years, after his father (Nicholas LeHuray, Jr.) died in 1846. His attempt to carry on the family firm under his own name appears to have been unsuccessful, and he soon turned to other pursuits. The maker's mark of T LE HURAY in conjoined boxes is... Offered is an excellent and scarce pair of American coin silver tea spoons by noted Philadelphia silversmith John McMullin, each bearing one of his rarest maker's marks - J.M'MULLIN in a rectangular punch. Mr. McMullin was successful and prolific, and had numerous maker's marks over his long career, but only one used a "J" for his first initial, rather than an "I". In about fifteen years of collecting Philadelphia silver specifically, these are the only examples of this maker's mark I was able... Click for details

This pair of tongs are generously sized at 6 1/4" long and 1.2 T. oz. weight.

Each arm is stamped "F. [for Foster] Tinkham," born in Middleboro, Massachusetts, and documented working in New York City in 1840 as a jeweler and watchmaker.

The "Fiddle" shape of the arms on these correlates with that date.

The grips are shell form, and the arch is engraved in a very elegant feathered script, "SAE."

They are in remarkably fine condition, and especially so for an item the better part of... Click for details

Durgin Daniel Low

A unique form for a strawberry fork, this item measures 3 1/2" overall and weighs .3 T. oz.

Rarely found, these pieces were made by Durgin and retailed by "Daniel Low & Co." (which company also marketed Durgin's famed "Salem Witch" items) as stamped on the reverse.

It has three tines that are 1 1/2" long each and joined at a shoulder that is 3/4" wide.

In sum, the overall shape looks something akin to a short handled pitch fork.

The pattern, which covers the handle and the heel of... Click for details

Made for sipping lemonade or iced tea, they are without a maker's mark, but American in origin, likely dating from the first half of the 20th century.

They are in flawless condition, without any bends or splits to the handles, or damage to the bowls. The finishes are bright and even.

Offered is an excellent and desirable American coin silver teaspoon in the fiddle and shell pattern by noted Philadelphia jewelers and silversmiths Thibault & Brothers, working in that town circa 1810-37. By style, this spoon probably dates to 1820 or later. This piece has a good engraved period script monogram and a well-struck, clear maker's mark. The die-struck shell decoration is relatively unworn. This piece measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. Condition is... Click for details

A 6 3/4" long, just under 1.0 T. oz., item, this spoon is stamped "dot F.&H dot" for one of Boston's premier silver manufacturing firms of the mid 19th century.

It is also imprinted "Pure Coin," which was a silver standard term used in New England in the period.

It has a downturned, "Reverse Tipt" handle that is elegantly engraved on the front in a design that is similar enough to Knowles' of nearby Providence, Rhode Island, die struck "Coronet" as perhaps to share a commonality of... Click for details

Coin Silver Long-Handled Condiment Spoon by D.OLIVER Possibly of Phila
click for details
Offered is a nice American coin silver long-handled salt spoon or condiment spoon, circa 1810-30, marked D.OLIVER in a rectangular punch. This mark is attributed by Ensko to a Daniel Oliver of Philadelphia, circa 1805, but Hollan was unable to uncover any objective evidence supporting this attribution for her book "Philadelphia Silversmiths". Nonetheless, the mark on this spoon was included in the book for discussion purposes. I have not been able to locate any additional information on this... Click for details

Good 18th Century Style Coin Silver Spoon by Henry McKeen of Phila.
click for details
Offered is an interesting American coin silver teaspoon by Henry McKeen of Philadelphia, working as a watchmaker and silversmith in that town between about 1823 and 1861. This piece is in a late 18th or very early 19th Century style, and is not typical of McKeen's usual fiddle pattern spoons. It may have been made to match an earlier English or American set of spoons. In any event, it is the Old English style, and has a period script monogram consistent with spoons of that generation. The... Click for details

Good Philadelphia Coin Silver Teaspoon by Alexander C. Morin, Ca. 1820
click for details
Offered is a good American coin silver tea spoon by Alexander C. Morin, a Philadelphia silversmith who was born on French territory and was a refugee from Santo Domingo after uprisings there. He was in business in Philadelphia by 1813 and worked for many years, though silver bearing his maker's mark is surprisingly scarce. This mark is perhaps his earliest and is rather crude compared to his other main maker's mark. This piece has earlier and more florid engraving with regard to the monogram... Click for details

Philadelphia Dessert Spoon by George K. Childs with Rare
click for details
Offered is a Philadelphia coin silver dessert spoon by well-known silversmith George K. Childs, whose work is often seen, but almost exclusively with his G.K.CHILDS mark. Two other marks, G.CHILDS and the G.K.C. mark on this piece, are much, much rarer. I've observed only one example each of those two marks in the past fifteen years, and the mark on this piece was used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. The maker's mark is clear and well-struck. This piece measures... Click for details
