Offered is a very rare set of four antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) table knives dating to about 1825-50, with hand-carved mother-of-pearl handles and solid silver blades and ferrules. Please take a look at all of the pictures by clicking on the first pictures. Each knife has a faced period engraved script monogram at the base of one side of the blade, and a maker's mark of HCG on the other side. Offered is a very finely decorated American coin silver fish server by Albert Coles & Co. of New York City, circa 1835-50 and retailed by (probably) George Gelston of the same city. The GELSTON mark on this piece may not be firmly attributed, but may fit George S. Gelston the best given Coles' working dates. This piece is not engraved with a crest or monogram, and there is no obvious sign of an erasure. It is a larger piece, measuring about 12 1/2 inches in length and weighing about 148 grams... Offered is an interesting antique Malaysian silver serving piece from the Kelantan region (the mark in Arabic above the country mark refers to this region - see pics). Silver from Malaysia was made both for local use and for Europeans on tour in the region, and Malaysian silversmiths were highly regarded in the 19th and early 20th centuries; a few families still make forms exactly like this, but it is a dying tradition due to the... Offered is a very nice American coin silver table spoon by Prisca Levan Mannerback (Mannerbach), son of the well-known Reading silversmith William Mannerback. The younger Mannerbach/Mannerback, who went by Levan based on his maker's mark, started working under his own mark not much earlier than 1825, given that he was born in 1807, and that would make him 18 in 1825. Solid silver, this plate measures 6" across and weighs 3.2 T. oz.

For bread and butter, the form functions well as a wine coaster, and an item this size could accommodate a 1.5 liter bottle.

The pattern is "Louis XIV" by Towle, whose "T around a lion" emblem, "Sterling," model number "5435," "Patented Dec. 23. 1919" all appear on the underside.

Never monogrammed, it remains in excellent condition, free of bends, dents, or nicks, and has a fine finish. There is no polishing wear at all... Click for details

Offered is a very fine example of the early maker's mark of noted Philadelphia silversmith Edward P. Lescure, who was working between 1822 and about 1836, and then intermittently through about 1861. While Lescure's later mark is well-known and seen periodically, this early mark is all but unknown, and perhaps only a tiny fraction of Lescure's extant work bears this mark. Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon bearing a very well-struck maker's mark for Thibault & Brothers, working in Philadelphia circa 1810-35. This piece measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 18 grams. It has a period engraved script monogram. Condition is fair at best, with some surface wear and some ripples and dents, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this desirable maker's mark!

Offered is a new mark that may be the retailers' mark of a partnership between Malcom MacNeil (McNeil) of Philadelphia and his son John A. MacNeil (McNeil). I've never come across this mark before, but the spoon was manufactured by Watts of Philadelphia and is of the right time period for this father and son to have formed a partnership. Offered is a scarce example of the mark of Washington, DC watchmaker and jeweler Jacob Karr, working in that city between 1857 and 1905; he died in 1917 at the age of 81, and was born in Germany, coming to the U.S. at the age of 11. For at least part of his tenure he was located at 348 Pennsylvania Avenue. Karr is known primarily as a watchmaker in that invented the "celebrated American chronometer"; he also serviced the chronometers and equipment at the Naval Observatory in Washington. This... Offered is a good usable English sterling silver platter spoon or stuffing spoon, made apparently by Richard Crossley of London, and hallmarked for 1784. This piece measures about 11 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 96 grams. It is engraved with a period armorial of a pair of wings surmounted by a star or etoile.
