One of Gorham's earliest full line patterns, Grecian was produced to a coin silver standard beginning in 1861 and then continued in sterling from 1868 onward. This example is marked only "Patent 1861" and with Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem absent a sterling designation, thus indicating it is coin. It is also the largest iteration of a ladle in this line and is for soup. In keeping with mid 19th century practice for this sort of item, it measures a massive 14" long and weighs 6.1... Offered is a fine American coin silver teaspoon by clockmaker, watchmaker and silversmith David Weatherly. Weatherly was born circa 1778 in England and worked in Philadelphia from about 1805 until his death in 1850. This piece measures about 5 5/8 inches in length and weighs about 11 grams. Offered is a really nicely made and preserved American coin silver teaspoon by noted silversmith Isaac Garrison, circa the 1850s. Mr. Garrison had a spoon and fork manufactory for a time, and made coin silver flatware both for his own retail operation as well as a wholesaler to many regional jewelers. This spoon bears one of his wholesaler marks, but it may have been sold by Mr. Garrison's shop given the absence of a retailer's mark. This piece also has a well-done period engraved script... Offered is a good American coin silver teaspoon by Montpelier, VT silversmith and jeweler Ira Strong Town (1810-1902), working there from about 1825 on. This teaspoon probably dates to the 1825-45 period. It is engraved with a period script monogram and has a good strike of one of Mr. Town's maker's marks. Offered is a very nice and rare American coin silver teaspoon by noted Washington, PA silversmith Jacob Schaffer (bio below), circa 1820-30. This piece has a period engraved script "DN" monogram. It measures about 5 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Condition is fairly good, with some surface wear and abrasions, and some wear to the monogram, but no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of the sought-after maker's mark!
