20200727-03 $25.00
Offered is a lovely and earlier coin silver spoon by Philadelphia silversmith, clockmaker and jeweler Nicholas LeHuray, Jr. (b. 1797 - d. 1846), working circa 1821-46 in that city. Nicholas LeHuray, Jr. made or sold some very fine flatware, and occasional hollowware. His work is not all that scarce but is usually very desirable. New England Coin Silver Sugar Shell by H. J. Low, Circa 1830-50
Silver : Coin Silver
Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
20200726-03 $17.50
Offered is a nice 19th Century American coin silver sugar shell by unknown silversmith or jeweler H. J. Low, possibly a man named Henry J. Low purportedly working in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in the mid-19th Century. I haven't found a verifiable reference for this mark, which is H.J.LOW in a rectangular punch. It doesn't appear that this Mr. Low is related to the much more famous Low family of silversmiths/jewelers in Boston in the same era - at least not closely. This piece has a good clear... 4297f $46.00
Unusual for Whiting in regard to the pattern which is a "Twist" handle with a faceted, four-sided, solid end, and the bowl form which is an elongated, gold washed, shell with a cupped heel with flange shoulders, this 6 1/8" long, .7 T. oz., item is likely a sugar spoon. Dating from late in the 19th century, it is marked with the Whiting "lion with W" logo, "Sterling," and the number "30" on the heel backside. Reed & Barton "Les Cinq Fleurs" Sterling Silver Berry Serving Spoon
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Old Friends
4283f $95.00
A very early example of Reed & Barton's "Les Cinq Fleurs," this berry spoon is large at 9" long and weighty at 3.5 T. oz. A multi-motif, Art Nouveau, design that features orchids, narcissus, and possibly poppy on this piece, the portraiture is set in high relief and is particularly expressive. This item is laden with provenance, reflected in the various inscriptions that appear in the gold washed bowl and handle front and backsides. The surname "McCurdy" is engraved in Old English... Mary Chawner, London 1833, Crested Sterling Silver "Shell" Tongs
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Old Friends
4281f On Hold
This pair of 6" long tongs that weigh a sturdy near 2.0 T. oz., are consequential on several counts. The first and most immediate feature is the design. They are a "French Thread" aka "Fiddle Thread" pattern with concave shells at the terminus of each arm. The shell form is repeated on the cupped grips. The wide arch has a gentle point on either side, where it accommodates an unusual crest, which is the second outstanding aspect of this. The crest shows a helmeted knight's shoulders and...
